U.S. CLIVAR Summit

14-17 July 2008 Irvine, California

The U.S. CLIVAR Summit will be held on July 14-17 in Irvine, California - minutes away from John Wayne International (Orange County) Airport. Meeting Reports and logistical details will be available soon. This will be an opportunity for the U.S. CLIVAR panels and committee to meet in plenary and separately.There will be a science symposium, Monday, July 14. The topic:

Climate Predictions for 2018: What can we say now and with what fidelity/uncertainty? What is our plan to better predict climate 10 years into the future?

Reservation process

Both Feds and non-feds should make reservations through Jill Reisdorf. (Reisdorf@ucar.edu)  Please email your arrival/departure dates, room preference, and number of guests.  Federal employees will need to provide a credit card for the room charge.   Confirmation numbers will be emailed on June 27th.  Please check your arrival/departure dates carefully as we may be charged for no-shows, late-arrivals and early departures if the hotel is not notified in advance.University (non- Federal) employees will be direct billed for the base room charge incidentals will be paid by the individual. Federal employees will pay for their own room charges.   Deadline for hotel reservations is Monday, June 23rd  After that date we cannot guarantee the conference rate.

Nearby Airports & Ground Transportation

  • John Wayne-Orange County Airport (SNA): # Complimentary Hotel Shuttle - Our John Wayne Airport hotel offers complimentary shuttle service for our guests.  We arrange pick up at the John Wayne / Orange County Airport 15 and 45 minutes after the hour, beginning at 5:15 a.m. on weekdays and 6:15 a.m. on weekends. The last pick up is at 11:15 p.m. nightly. 
  • Taxi - The cost of taxi service to our hotel near John Wayne Airport is generally around $8.00. Ask your Concierge to arrange taxi transport
  • L.AX Int'l Airport (LAX): Should be arranged through the Super Shuttle. 1-800-BLUE-VAN. Cost is approximately $30. Travel time will depend on traffic, about 30-50 minutes.
  • Long Beach Airport - Taxi is approx $70.Ontario Airport: Taxi is approx $80-$90. Can call Super Shuttle for rate information at 1-800-258-3826.Amtrak: 12 miles to Irvine, taxi $20-$30.

Meeting Locations

All meeting sessions for the CLIVAR Summit and for any of the panel meetings will take place in the Hyatt Regency Irvine Conference Theater. Computer and Internet for Attendee Use; High speed wired connections are available in the sleeping rooms for a daily rate. Limited internet access will be available in the meeting area. Wireless access is available in the hotel lobby and restaurants.

Meals

Continental breakfast, morning coffee, and afternoon break will be provided to meeting participants.  Lunch will be on your own. Meals and incidentals per diem in Irvine is $64 per day. Travel voucher forms will be available at the meeting for non-Federal employees.
