Terms of Reference

  1. Identify the processes that are important for the coupling of the high latitude climate to the mid and low latitudes
  2. Develop and advise the CLIVAR and SEARCH SSC's on field, empirical, and model studies in the regions that influence the coupling between high latitudes and the mid and low latitudes to achieve the goals of CLIVAR and SEARCH.
  3. Suggest mechanisms for implementation of such studies
  4. Advise the CLIVAR and SEARCH SSC's on the relevance and priority of specific projects in the context of the overall scientific objectives of such studies
  5. Coordinate US activities with international studies to effectively use the combined resources of the international community that works on the problem of linking the high latitudes to lower latitudes
  6. Keep track of, assess, and advise the CLIVAR and SEARCH SSC's of plans for climate observations, including operational observations by U.S. agencies, GCOS, GTOS, and GOOS in the regions important for linking the high latitudes to lower latitudes
