The U.S. contribution to

Climate Variability and Predictability

U.S. CLIVAR Atlantic Science Conference

31 January – 2 February 2005
Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric
Science at the
University of Miami

All investigators (PIs, post-docs, and students - U.S. and international) working on climate variability, prediction, and change over and around the Atlantic basin are welcome to participate. Graduate students are especially encouraged to attend. Awards will be made for the best student posters and presentations. Limited travel grants for students may be available.

The conference will comprise three mini-symposia, addressing the following questions:

1. What are the roles of local versus remote processes in Atlantic-basin variability?
2. How predictable is Atlantic variability on seasonal-to-interannual timescales? How does this predictability extend over the adjoining continents?
3. What are the trends and long time scale modes of Atlantic basin climate?

A draft agenda is now available. Please contact the chair of each session with any questions.

Important dates:

  • Abstract submission deadline (1 October 2004)
  • Registration deadline for those not presenting (15 December 2004)
